They say there’s always a first time for everything! Well, do you remember your ‘firsts’?
While answering these questions, I realized that I have had a pretty normal, boring life. No pizzazz or drama. So I asked the same questions to bossman, my SO, and his answers were funny, over-the-top, and definitely more interesting. (Catch his answers next week)
Here we go;
- First foreign country you ever visited?
The first time I ever left the country, I was 20 and was headed to Uganda for my undergraduate at Busoga University. Save from the total culture shock and language barrier, it was fun times. I stayed a cool 4 years and left with a degree, great friendships and a boyfriend come husband.
- The first app you check when you wake up in the morning?
I check my messages first just in case there is an Mpesa one.
- First time I ever got into trouble at home or school?
I can’t quite remember the first time I ever got into trouble but I fondly remember my dad beating the hell outta me when I came back home drunk and only in form two. Still get goosebumps just by the thought of it.
- My first BF?
I’m pretty sure I had a boyfriend in class 5. One thing though, he didn’t know he was in the relationship.
- My first time in a flight
The first time on a flight was in 2014. I was traveling to Mombasa with my then 3-month old son to meet his grandparents. I was excited and scared at the same time.
- What was your first bike?
I had a bike but can’t recall what make it was. When I outgrew it, we would go ride bikes for I guess one bob a lap around the hood.
- When was the first time you shot a gun?
I have shot a gun and killed a bad guy who wanted to harm me. It happened in my dreams.
- My first car?
Does this mean my own personal car that I bought with my own coins? If so, Mungu azidi kunibariki.
- My first celebrity crush?
My first celebrity crush was Lil Fizz when he was part of B2K. I had seen a future with him. But then it quickly came to Common, but Michael Ealy has since dominated my heart to date.
- My first cooking experience?
I can’t remember my first time cooking. I was probably still very young and in the kitchen with my mom. But I do know that if I decide to throw down, it becomes a real showdown.
- My first ever date?
Back in primary school, in class 8, we went for a school trip to Mombasa. One of my crushes asked me to stroll with him on the beach and he bought me some cassava crisps and Fanta. I was so excited, but we would have been dead meat if the teacher found out.
- My first job?
My first unpaid job was my mom’s duka. Any time I showed some semblance of being idle, I always ended up working in the shop while my mom went to visit her friends or go for fellowship. My first paid job was as a sales and merchandiser, I earned a cool 15 gees.
- The first book I remember reading?
I don’t think I can really put a hand on what I first read but I remember in primary and high school I read a lot of Mills and Boons, Sweet Valley High, and Goosebumps novels. These novels set a good precedent to my now overly-imaginative mind.
- The first person you text when something exciting happens?
Mostly this would be bossman. We have a lot of mushene going on between us. But depending on the situation, my BFF applies.
- The first thing I do every morning?
Wonder what day it is.
- The first thing I do when I get home?
I’m not gonna lie that the first thing I do is checking on my kids or something important like that, no, the first thing I do when I get home is remove my bra.
- The first time you ever got drunk?
Back in form 2, where you now perceived yourself as grown and were easily swayed by peer pressure, I would sneak in sachets of Sapphire and Black Diamond to school. During entertainment Saturdays, I would mix this contraband with juice and proceed to the hall for a good dance session. During one of these times, I got drunk and got very jumpy and excited. I woke up to a bad headache the following day and had to attend mass.
- My first time living alone
I was 20 and a fresher in a new country.
- Who was the first person who you cared more about their wellbeing than your own?
When my big sister passed away in 2005, I immediately grew a sense of responsibility towards her children. I learned to take care of them and understood what it meant to care for someone else aside from yourself.
- When was your first public speaking success?
I guess in high school, as a prefect when I had to address the school. I tend to do well in public speaking.
- When was the first time you got stitches?
Oh my dear Lord! I had an episiotomy when I had my son back in 2014. “Fun times”
- When was the first time you stayed up all night and watched the sunrise?
I have not stayed up all night and watched the sunrise. However, I have stayed up all night indulging in some fun and devious activities over the years. I have never watched the sun actually rise, but it has caught me by surprise several times and hinted to me that it was probably a good time to get home from my escapades.
- When was the first time you threw a punch?
I threw a punch at Roy in class 8. He had accused me of kissing some boy and the whole class was very amused. I wasn’t. He later stole my new Oxford dictionary that my dad had bought for me to study hard for my KCPE.
- What was the first professional sporting event you went to?
That would be Safaricom 7s’ rugby. But I would like to attend a formula one race in my lifetime and meet Max Verstappen.
- When was the first time you realized you are good at your job?
When I got a perfect employee review at my sales job that they considered me for supervisor. The then supervisor was not amused.
- When was your first regrettable hairstyle?
I once put on a short weave. I looked horrible. Never again
- What was your first business venture?
Back in high school, I would buy 2 cartons of nice biscuits. One for myself, the other to sell.
- When was the first time you cut class?
Throughout my school years, I rarely cut class. But the first time I did, I was binge-watching ‘Kings’, a series that hit back in my college days. And just as fate would have it, the lecturer gave a RAT (random assessment test) that day. I never skipped class again.
- How old were you when you had your first kiss?
Probably 12; I might implicate myself if I continue with this statement.
- When was the first time you went fishing?
After college, a friend invited me to visit the fancy and bougie place his mom worked. She took us fishing. I have photographic evidence btw!
- My first sexual experience?
I know y’all been waiting for this with your rotten minds. But since I don’t kiss and tell, let’s just go with ‘I’m still a virgin’
Byeeeee!!
